Parent Education

This competency-based course is designed to assist students/parents in formulating guidelines for effective parenting that are compatible with their values and the physical, emotional and cognitive developmental needs of children. Emphasis will be placed on the prime role of the parent as teacher, nurturer, and the provider of guidance and structure to the child. Students will learn to recognize developmental tasks and needs of the maturing child and to strengthen their positive parenting skills.

 

Prerequisites:

  1. A minimum reading level of 9.0 as measured by the TABE D7/8 reading comprehension check
  2. Writing fluency at an English 1 placement level, as determined by a student writing sample and evaluated by the receiving instructor
  3. Recommendation of an instructor and/or counselor
